Listen up kids: Just when you thought the trails were safe… Fat bike in the works here in the North. Wish we had some snow (egads, I can’t believe I typed that). But it seems whenever I build a fat bike, no snow. Go figure. But I digress. Today’s work was finishing and fine tuning Patrick’s seat tube bridge and then fully welding the front triangle. Things came together nicely. Tomorrow looks like I’ll be finishing up his seat stays and moving on to the bridge/braze on’s hopefully. One thing that happened while welding late yesterday was an “epiphany” with filler management. Typically, I cut my filler rods in half. That 36″ of rod waving around has always been distracting. So I cut them in half and things aren’t so annoying. But for whatever reason, I found myself tucking the filler rod under my arm on one pass and it was one of those moments of “Now why the hell didn’t I do that before?!” So much more control and zero distractions. I love when stuff like that happens. But as my 8th grade typing teacher used to say: “Less YAP. MORE TAP.”
