The trails were packed just right yesterday… Finished up my chores here at the house and then headed out with Lynn and our pup Kaya for a ride on my brother in laws trails. He’s been getting permission from neighbors and spending lots of time building trails. Super sweet and lots of thought went into the lines. Everyones been snowshoeing and cross country skiing them lately so things were just right finally:

Trails were packed!

Let's ride some trails...

What a blast. I came back glowing. Fun? I can’t get over it. Riding a bike, in the snow, IN the woods ON trails! Can anyone think of anything better to do in the winter? I can’t…

Also mounted up a Surly Bud for front tire guidance duty. That’s one heck of a tire. I have a Surly Nate out back. The Husker Du’s I was running previously were great in hard pack, but in frothy powder and loose/bumpy snowed in trail or anything that had to be blazed… not so good. I needed more meat and knob. This combo is the ticket. Large tire up front to help add more traction, steering / grip, as well as blaze a larger tire path for the rear tire to follow seemed to do the trick just nicely. So 4.8″ tire up front, and a 3.8 out back. Fiddling with tire pressure too really helped the cause. Fun stuff :
