Another Fat standard

So began another fat bike this week. After this it’s a 29er headed to Canada. Was making great time on this when out of no where my left hand slipped while checking the fit on a internal cable guide and somehow I took off the skin of both my left hands index finger and middle finger. The middle fingers not too bad… but the index finger? Forget about it. Perfect 1/4″ half-round hole. It’ll fill in.. But that set me back for friday as work was a bit tedious and slow going. Good thing it wasn’t the tip of the finger. I’m right handed which is good but you don’t realize just how much you use your other appendage until ...

29er out the door to MA standard

Few weeks ago the Fox fork Mike and I were waiting on decided to finally show up. Pretty much each time I order a Fox fork, they’re 2 months out from delivery. That’s good news for them! But… Perhaps not so good for the customer. So I’ll make some adjustments with that for future builds. So if you’re in the list and know you’re getting a Fox, expect to order it sooner than later. But, after a long wait, Mike’s 29er came together. Parts spec was a rare but welcome “Builders Choice”. Mike put his trust in me to spec the bike as I’d spec it. I gave him two lists, one a mix with weight and price taken into ...

“How about if I sleep a little bit longer and forget all this nonsense?!”Kafka quote

The bedding was hardly able to cover it and seemed ready to slide off any moment. His many legs, pitifully thin compared with the size of the rest of him, waved about helplessly as he looked. “What’s happened to me?” he thought. It wasn’t a dream. His room, a proper human room although a little too small, lay peacefully between its four familiar walls. A collection of textile samples lay spread out on the table – Samsa was a travelling salesman – and above it there hung a picture that he had recently cut out of an illustrated magazine and housed in a nice, gilded frame. It showed a lady fitted out with a fur hat and fur boa who ...

Sparkle Blue Fat standard

Patrick’s Fat Bike is just about finished up. Need to do some final tuning and minor assembly work but it’s pretty much finished. As you can see, this is not just any fat bike. Chris King, Surly Marge Lites with DT Supercomp Spokes / Alloy Nips, White Brothers Snow Pack fork, Formula Brakes, ENVE Post, Watson Ti Bars, FIZIK saddle, e13 Cranks w/ custom modified LG1+ Guide, Paul Rhub + Whub hubset custom anodized Blue, Sram XX1 drivetrain… The list is long. It took some time to put it together and make everything play nice. But it’s one hell of a build. I can’t wait to get it in his hands so he can shred some snow. You will note ...

Week of tooling standard

This week has been a whirlwind of activity. Catching up on blog posts now actually since I can’t seem to sleep. Too much swirling in my noggin’ at the moment. At any rate, I’ll be building up Patrick’s fat bike later this morning after I do some modifications to his crank and guide. But like I stated earlier, I’ve been putting some time in to my tooling and making some updates as well as creating some new special tooling. First up was redesigning my seat stay jig so that things are in phase and registered off of the length of the tube. The previous setup was tricky to setup with S-Bend stays. All of my stays have multiple bends and ...

Back from Powder standard

So Patrick’s fat bike came back from powder. All the parts arrived yesterday too… Took some time to put together a shoot for his frame/fork before I build it up this friday (2.16). This got the attention of www.fat-bike.com and be on the lookout for a article hitting shortly on the full build story. Till then…
